AI video vs a traditional studio: the actual cost math

A traditional spot runs €50–100K and three weeks. AI production runs €2–5K and 24–48 hours. Here is where the money goes, and why the gap is real rather than a discount.

Brands ask why AI production costs a tenth of a traditional shoot and still expect a catch. There is no catch. The gap is not a discount on the same thing. It is a different cost structure, and once you see where the money used to go, the number stops looking suspicious.

Where a traditional budget actually goes

Book a €50–100K spot and most of that spend happens before anyone judges a single frame. You pay a crew for the day whether the light cooperates or not. You pay actors, a location, rental, insurance, catering and travel. You pay for a second day when the first one runs long. The creative work, the part that decides whether the video sells, is a slice of the total. The rest is logistics.

That structure also sets the timeline. Two to three weeks is normal, because scheduling people and places is slow, and a reshoot means starting the calendar again.

Where an AI budget goes

We spend almost nothing on logistics and almost everything on the work: the concept, the direction, the render, the cut. That is why the same brief lands at €2–5K instead of €50–100K, and why the first version arrives in 24 to 48 hours rather than three weeks.

The comparison, side by side:

  • Cost per video: €50–100K traditional, €2–5K with us.
  • Turnaround: 2–3 weeks traditional, 24–48 hours with us.
  • Variations: one shoot is one creative; one AI master becomes 100+ cuts.
  • Entry point: roughly €50K minimum to start a real shoot, versus a €200 pilot here.
  • Testing: costly and high-risk on set, cheap enough to A/B without a budget hit.

Those traditional figures reflect standard EU market rates for comparable production, not a strawman.

The number that matters more than cost

The interesting shift is not the price. It is variations. A shoot gives you one creative because every extra version costs another setup. AI gives you a hundred because a cut is close to free once the master exists. That changes what a campaign can do: you stop betting the budget on one execution and start testing ten, keeping what performs.

The honest limits

AI production is cheaper because it skips the shoot, so it cannot do the things a shoot is for. A documented real location, a founder’s real face, a physical stunt: those still want a camera. We say so when they come up. For advertising, product and social video, which is most of what brands actually need every month, the math above holds.
